The California Newspaper Publisher Companies. . .The California Newspaper Publisher Association family consists of three separate corporations:
CALIFORNIA NEWSPAPER PUBLISHERS ASSOCIATION
The California Newspaper Publishers Association (CNPA) is a nonprofit trade association representing the daily and weekly newspapers of California. The Association is governed by a 35-member Board of Directors elected by Active Member newspapers.
CNPA SERVICES, INC.
CNPA Services, Inc. (CSI) was established in July 1992 to accommodate an emphasis on entrepreneurial ventures. CSI is a wholly owned, for-profit subsidiary of the nonprofit corporation, California Newspaper Publishers Association (CNPA). Under the dual structure, the nonprofit corporation, CNPA, owns all shares of CSI and has all of the rights that come with ownership. All Association members receive CNPA's traditional member services through a contract with CSI, and the CNPA is provided with the mechanism to reap the maximum benefit of its entrepreneurial efforts by eliminating the tax on "unrelated business income," which occurs when profit is generated in a nonprofit corporation.
CNPA FOUNDATION
The CNPA Foundation is a nonprofit corporation organized in October 1993 to raise funds through tax deductible contributions for internships and other journalism education activities. The formation of the Foundation enhances CNPA's ability to raise funds for journalism education because of tax-deductible donations.
